Deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragedy. May we all come together as a nation to remember and pray for the victims, rescuers, survivors and families that experienced first-hand yesterday’s events at the Boston Marathon.

Emma Grace – 9 mos

Every afternoon, my 9 month old accompanies me to check the mail. She loves to pull open the mailbox door to see something new each time. Her favorite is when there is a padded envelope for her to crinkle and pop. She also loves the brightly colored flyers that typically get tossed in the trash.

Yesterday, however, it was my heart that skipped a beat when her little hands reached up to pull open the door. Propped up inside the mailbox was a big bright white envelope with the most beautiful hand-inked calligraphy I’ve ever seen. There is something so elegant about using the good old fashioned ink-dipped pens for today’s mail. It usually means something very special is inside!

Traci Green is a calligrapher based out of Murrels Inlet, SC and serves the entire Lowcountry areas for everything from invitations and place cards to chalk board and mirror art. Inside the envelope Traci sent me were several works of art from her collection. The invitation is letter-pressed from her hand-drawn design and is simply remarkable.

5 Tips For Planning Your Lowcountry Wedding

Oceans, rivers and marshes define the Lowcountry area that stretches the 200 miles between Charleston, SC to St. Mary’s, GA. Filled with history, culture, natural beauty and the friendliest people in America, it’s no wonder engaged couples flock here year after year for their destination weddings.

001

There are several important things to consider when planning your Big Day in the Lowcountry:

Time of Year – The best months to get married are April-June and September-October. March and November are close runner-ups because I consider them to be transitional months between the extreme seasons. July and August is by far the hottest and most humid time of year. If your wedding day vision entails the outdoors, avoid these months at all costs. You want your guests to remember the kiss, food, music and decor…NOT how hot and sweaty they were.

Massive Tides – Tides average 6-8 feet here in the Lowcountry so be sure to check when high/low tides will take place on your wedding day so you can plan accordingly (Here is the site I refer to).

Pesky Pests – Mosquitos, no-see-ums and palmetto bugs are sure to pay a congratulatory visit to your outdoor wedding. While it’s nearly impossible to completely eradicate them, there are a few things you can do to help the situation:

  1. Hire a professional to spray the morning before and morning of your wedding.
  2. Buy a few of these and place them around the perimeter of your wedding site.
  3. Provide guests with a few bottles of herbal, scent-free insect repellant such as this one.

Afternoon Showers – The weather forecast changes constantly here so do yourself a favor and try to avoid checking NOAA until about 3 days prior to your Big Day. When the forecast says 30-40% chance of rain, it’s probably because a brief 5 minute shower is expected. Be prepared with a backup plan just in case. I also like to have plenty of beach towels in the trunk of my car in case a quick downpour drenches the ceremony chairs.

Embracing the Culture  – Incorporate the Lowcountry history and culture into your wedding via menus, cocktails, decor, welcome bags, organized activities and music. When I think Lowcountry, I think of the following:

  • Oysters
  • Gullah
  • Shrimp ‘n Grits
  • Bluegrass
  • Palmetto Trees
  • Back Rivers
  • Plantation Homes
  • Expansive Porches
  • Cotton Fields
  • History
  • Horse & Carriage
  • Rocking Chairs
  • Sweet Tea
  • Mason Jars
  • Hospitality at it’s finest
  • “Carolina Girls” by Chairmen of the Board

If you’re planning a Lowcountry wedding, give us a call! We would be honored to assist you in covering all the details.

C

Today marks Embellished Event’s two year anniversary since launching in 2011 and we have so much to be grateful for!

  • First and foremost, our sweet brides and grooms who trust us with the most important celebration in their life!
  • Second, the talented, professional and fabulous team of vendors that we surround ourselves with and who have consistently helped us create successful and memorable weddings for our clients. We really couldn’t do it with you!
  • Third, my oh-so-amazing right hand lady when it comes to executing on the wedding days, Kylie! Any employer knows how hard it is to find quality help and Kylie amazes us at every event. It’s been so much fun watching her grow with Embellished Events and our success would not be possible without her organization, charm, professionalism and smile.
  • Lastly, my husband and family who have been so supportive as I pursued my life-long dream!

As we move into 2013, we have so much to look forward to. Beautiful weddings, new clients, new design challenges and most excitingly, a fresh new face! Yes, that’s right, we’re rebranding Embellished Events and I am SO excited to share it with you I can hardly stand it!! I can give you a sneak peek of our new logo, but you’ll have to wait a little longer to see the new look completely rolled out. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we reveal more beauty in our new look. Without further adieu, I present to you the new face of Embellished Events:
